How glass waste became a product that engineers now use.
The problem
Cutting glass leaves a lot of broken pieces. At Crystal they were thrown away. They took up space and cost money to get rid of.
The idea
Instead of asking how to get rid of it, we asked who could use it. The answer was builders. Crushed glass can be used in building foundations.
What we did
- Checked if it made sense, with real numbers
- Set up a simple process to crush and sort the glass
- Set the price and went to engineers and contractors
- Wrote the work steps and quality checks for the team
The result
Something Crystal used to pay to throw away is now sold. Engineers use it in building foundations, and the company found a new group of customers.
